Why Am I Here? An Existential/Meteorological Crisis

There are a lot of great things about Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School. The strong Advanced Placement program, a host of great teachers (and a few not so great), a strong theatre program, the most powerful high school radio station in the country, and a rather kickass debate team.

We are also the only goddamn school in the area that stays open after 10 inches of snow.

I'm sitting in the computer lab, looking out of the window, and if everything worked out the way I wanted it to, those would be giant Sno-Caps and that would be falling shredded coconut. Unfortunately, it's snow. All snow. And it keeps on coming. And better yet, the air conditioner is on. Why... who made this decision?

Flossmoor Road wasn't even plowed this morning trying to get to school. There's definitely problems when one of the major roads in our village is Death Star1 and I still have to get somewhere.

The elementary and junior high schools down the same street as H-F are closed. James Hart is closed. Marian Catholic is closed. Lake Central is closed. Mokena is closed. The college where my mother works is closed.

Snow is great and all. It's pretty, I don't deny that. I also am afflicted with a condition called cold urticaria, which in layman's terms means that I'm allergic to the cold. I break out in hives, and on days like today I have to carry an Epi-Pen around because if I come in immediate contact with snow or harsh winds, I run the risk of going into anaphylactic shock.

Presently I need to run to the front of the school so I don't miss my medical shuttle bus.
